Know what’s safe to eat. Know how to live with it.
SafePlate started with celiac disease and now helps you manage a growing list of food allergies, intolerances, and dietary restrictions — all in one app. Scan your groceries, get AI coaching from someone who’s lived it, and do it all built first for South African stores and brands.
Built by someone who’s been there
In early 2023, our founder Rochelle got a phone call: “You have celiac disease. Stop eating gluten.” That was it — no roadmap, no guidance on what to eat or how to shop. She spent the months that followed crying in grocery store aisles, reading labels for hours, and getting glutened at restaurants that promised their food was safe.
She built SafePlate because that support system didn’t exist and she needed it. It’s not a miracle cure for how hard the first few months are — it’s the roadmap she wishes someone had handed her on day one: honest about the challenges, clear about the solutions, and there when you need it.
Along the way, she kept hearing the same question from people managing other food allergies, intolerances, and dietary restrictions: can I trust this label? SafePlate is built to answer that for anyone asking it — starting with celiac disease, and growing from there.

Scan it. Know it’s safe. In under 2 seconds.
Point your camera at a barcode and SafePlate checks it against a database of 10,000+ South African products — the only one built specifically for this market. No more three hours of label-reading and Googling per shopping trip.

Filter for more than just gluten
Celiac disease is where SafePlate’s support runs deepest — but scanning covers more than gluten. Premium lets you filter for a range of allergens and dietary restrictions including: nuts, soy, sugar, salt, nighshades, sulphites, mushrooms, sesame, dairy, and eggs. The same app works for the whole household, not just the one person managing celiac.

Meet Celia, your AI coach for the hardest part
A new diagnosis comes with a hundred questions, usually asked at midnight with no one to answer them. Celia is a 24/7 AI coach — built into SafePlate on Premium — for exactly that. She combines medical research with the practical, lived-experience strategy Rochelle wishes she’d had.
What Celia can help with
“How do I handle a wedding?”, “What do I tell work when there’s a function?”, “How do I start figuring out food?”
From first-week kitchen setup to navigating restaurants, travel, and family events, at your own pace
Celia remembers your diagnosis date, your situation, and what you’ve already covered
Celia won’t tell you gluten-free is easy or that you’ll love it. She’ll tell you how to get through the hard parts.
Simple pricing, no surprises
Our goal is to keep SafePlate affordable and accessible for those who need it most, while allowing us to continue adding products, features and new coaches and our pricing reflects that.
